The Most Self-Important List of The 21 Most Self-Important Movies of All Time

VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1967)

The movie which caused Patty Duke to regret ever becoming an actress (along with the rest of us), there simply are no words to describe the deliciously overblown self-importance of this legendary film. It defines the pinnacle of a genre of risky camp grotesquery that only Showgirls has ever challenged. Its success as a masterpiece of self-importance is only more solidified by its in-name-only sequel and the Greatest Drive-In Film Ever Made: Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls.

Valley of the Dolls (Special Edition – Amazon)
Jacqueline Susann’s Novel

  1. Guess you don’t watch a lot of foreign cinema 😉 I can name a number of bonkytits pictures that leave most of these in the dust. Week End (1967), Fitzcarraldo (1982), Diabel (1974), The Laughing Woman (1969), Last Year at Marienbad (1961), anything by Lars von Trier… And how come Zabriskie Point (1970) didn’t make this list? Classic.

  2. You forgot the award in Magnolia: The Tom Cruise Award for the presence of the incomparably self-important Tom Cruise. I know… it’s so obvious it’s redundant…
