Ask The Batemaster: Blue Balls Blues!

Keep your entire pelvis relaxed while you edge and massage your balls plenty. This may leave you balls extra sensitive, which is common, but they should not get sore or blue.

QUESTION: I love to edge for days. Then I shoot amazing loads and the orgasm is incredible beyond belief. But I do get blue balls—almost literally blue. They get bigger, sore, and almost a pale purple color. Can I avoid this?

RESPONSE: I will not suggest you stop edging, because that’s a wonderful thing to do. Until they discover edging, many men just race to the finish line each time for years and years! Yes, there are some things that may help prevent that kind of unpleasant side-effect which is actually a form of testicular congestion. Blue balls is mainly caused by muscle tension in the area, and inhibited blood flow due to muscle contraction. Your balls tend to tighten up during high arousal.

Most important is to be willing to retrain yourself to masturbate a bit differently, and believe me, you will enjoy it even more! The first thing I always coach men in to enhance masturbation is to breathe deeply into your belly. This helps you keep relaxed. Erection is part of the relaxation response, the opposite of the tensed-up fight/flight reflex. Avoid stressed, upper chest breathing—instead do deep abdominal breaths, into your belly.

Also slow down your self-touch, force yourself to go a lot slower, and pay close attention. Don’t focus on having a full erection all the time; let it come and go somewhat.

Learn to keep your entire pelvis relaxed and loose while you masturbate. Part of this is: do not stay in one position all the time. If you sit a lot, stand up. If you stand up, walk around, if you walk around, lie down. Even reclining or sitting, there are many variations, including pushing your hips up and down to meet your hands while you masturbate. Lie on your side. Do a doggy on all fours, then reach under yourself to play with your penis and balls.

Also, massage your balls a lot! Don’t just play with them while you masturbate your penis, but at other times caress, push and pull your testicles within the elastic sac of your scrotal skin. This feels good, it enhances your relaxation, and also helps to increase your testosterone levels. It’s beneficial in many ways to remember to massage your balls, often and do it a great deal! Cup your balls in one hand, pull them, push them, roll them around. Also rub your perineum. Pucker and relax your anus while you masturbate; push it with a finger like ringing a doorbell.

Edging is a useful practice to increase your pleasure by allowing you to masturbate for longer periods. It helps you reach and sustain higher states of pure penis pleasure. Keep your entire pelvis relaxed while you edge and massage your balls plenty. This may leave you balls extra sensitive, which is common, but they should not get sore or blue.

A note from The Batemaster: I’m honored that the guys at Bateworld have asked me to respond to some questions from male masturbators around the world every week.

How Bruce P. Grether became the Batemaster

Among his earliest memories, Bruce recalls seeing an adult man’s penis swing about anchored in a nest of curly brown hairs when the man was changing clothes. That penis fascinated him and he somehow knew it was of major importance. He also remembers how good it felt to slide down a stairway banister or to climb a tree with pressure between his legs sending delicious sensations all through his body.

At an early age, he played doctor with another boy his age, and the frottage he enjoyed as they rubbed their penises together made him feel One with All Things.

He was older, maybe 9 or 10 years when he figured out how to actually masturbate while taking a shower. Immediately Bruce became a fan of self-pleasure, though, with puberty, he became extremely shy about his body being seen. Still, when his pubic hair sprouted and his penis grew bigger, it astonished him how incredible the sensations could feel with adult genitalia.

All through his 20s and 30s Bruce loved masturbating and did it often. Something kept tell him though, that there could be more to it. None of the books he read about Tantra and Taoist erotic cultivation provided simple how-to instructions. Finally, in his early 40s, he came upon Joseph Kramer’s video about male genital massage: FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Having no playmates to try this with, he tried it on himself. In the process, he discovered what he soon named “Mindful Masturbation.” For 6 weeks he masturbated for hours every day, and did not ejaculate once! This was the Penis Paradise he had been looking for since his adventures playing doctor as a young boy. He was changed forever and lost most of his shyness and insecurities.

Bruce began to listen deeply to whatever his penis told him. This way he learned more and more about male masturbation, the penis, and he studied human sexuality. Soon he was hired to write professionally for the sex education site JackinWorld (dot) com, which he did for some years under the name “Bruce McFarland.”

Since then, his erotic activism is more radical and he uses his actual given name: Bruce P. Grether, AKA the Batemaster. He has hosted workshops and now does online masturbation coaching. In 2012 his best-selling book THE SECRET OF THE GOLDEN PHALLUS was published and with his handsome young friend Blue Tyger he created the Erotic Engineering site to explore advanced male self-pleasure practices.

Bruce considers himself a Missionary of the Male Mysteries and his work continues.

  1. I’ve noticed that in the 5 years that I’ve been doing the multiple dry orgasmic technique “blue balls” have never been a problem – as they were occasionally before. Possible explanations:

    – consciously relaxing the pee-stopper muscle relaxes the whole area
    – shorter sessions (20 to 30 minutes usually with as many orgasms) are fully satisfying but shorter than 1 hour plus sessions that used to bring on blue balls
    – the multiple little orgasms serve to prevent blue balls

  2. Thanks, as always, for your great comments as one of the more pioneering.cutting-edge masturbators I know, Brother! Yes I experience many “dry orgasms” and also what I call “prolonged orgasmic states” where I’m almost ON the edge itself for long periods, kind a surfing along the “event-horizon” thing that sustains intense ecstasy similar to orgasm for longer periods… and I don’t get blue balls. I seldom ejaculate, but I do masturbate quote a bit, if not exactly 24/7! Thanks as again! — BPG
