To protect and increase sensation
QUESTION:
I’m a man in my seventies and I’ve always masturbated a lot. But often I’ve had a raw spot on my penis, even painful, and sometimes on my balls. Now I’ve just discovered lube, from how you often mention it, Bruce! Feels great and protects me. Better late than never, right?
RESPONSE:
Most definitely it’s never too late to learn new things in terms of masturbatory practices and skills. In fact, trying new things, as well as catching yourself slipping into old and less helpful habits are both basic to the teaching of what I call “Mindful Masturbation.”
As you’ve learned, using lubrication when you masturbate serves at least two important purposes: 1.) It protects the delicate and precious skin of your penis with its numerous pleasure receptor nerves; 2.) It increases sensation as it allows longer and more intense direct stimulation of those sensitive ecstatic nerves. Though the entire surface of the shaft contains some such nerves, they are concentrated increasingly in the upper shaft and the head. Also, especially in the frenulum tissues at the underside of your glans penis.
If you are blessed to be intact, with a foreskin, lubrication can still make a lot of difference in both ways I have mentioned. What circumcised men like me can never truly experience is how both the inside and the outside of the delicate “hood” or “sheath of foreskin tissue anchored around the “neck” of the upper shaft are abundantly endowed with pleasure nerves. Therefore, as the foreskin glides over the head or glans, both the inside of the foreskin and the outside of the glans itself stimulate each other!
Imagine: this is something like rubbing cock2cock, performing penis-to-penis frottage with yourself!
Age is no barrier to plentiful masturbatory pleasure, so long as you have basically good health. I encounter men in their eighties and nineties who still greatly enjoy masturbation as often as possible. For some, a full, hard erection eventually becomes a challenge. There are two good, basic approaches to this: 1.) Erection enhancing medication or 2.) Soft cock stimulation with plentiful lubrication. Certainly, more lube than necessary is always better than not enough!

Be sure to consult a doctor about erectile enhancement medicines before using them and get them from a physician’s prescription at your trusted pharmacy. You may have other meds that might not combine well with erection enhancers. Still, soft cock masturbation is something a man of any age can enjoy.

Great info on lubrication. I jack both dry and lubed. I use several different types of lube for different sensations. My favorite is Baby Oil as long as oral won’t be involved. Although I do use baby oil on my partner and still suck him. I find the water based lubes dry out too quickly.
Brothers, lube yourselves! I don’t know how one can be a dedicated mindful masturbator without the benefit of a good lube. It just adds so much to the experience and protects my skin from the hours of daily stroking I engage in joyfully. Can’t imagine masturbating without it!
Because I’ve been masturbating since my earliest youth (9 years), I’ve never had a contamination under my foreskin. I’m 77 years old now, that means I’ve been masturbating regularly for 67 years. After masturbating I wash the penis right away. Because the ejaculate soon decomposes under the foreskin and then smells unpleasant. This is very easy to do over the sink, foreskin back and then wash with soap and water. Do not dry off and close the foreskin. Only then dry off so that the moisture on the glans (acorn) is retained. I always wash my hands before I start masturbating. And apply butter to the glans for lube. For me as a habitual solo masturbator it is important that the penis is always ready for use. I am uncut, I removed my frenulum myself. That’s why I can use my foreskin like a vagina. For masturbation, butter has proven to be the best lubricant. Butter is kind to the skin and allows the foreskin to slide easily. And what is important is that the penis is protected and is therefore always ready for use. This is very important for a habitual masturbator like me I think.
I also enjoy masturbating both dry and lubed. I prefer to do it in that order, as the lubed action is always more intense/sensitive than the “dry.” I just prefer variety in my solosex, but I probably ejaculate “lubed” 99% of the time. My lube of choice – Astroglide regular formula. As long as the humidity isn’t really low, I find that Astroglide keeps its lubricity enough for me. I think lube is one of the most essential things for good masturbation and there are SO many kinds to choose from.
I usually start dry but now have been using coconut oil seems a no brainer all natural and good for you skin.
I also trim short and love the sensation of the coconut on my balls and ass
