Masturbation, Vivid Dreams, and a Novel Series
QUESTION:
In one blog, Bruce, you talked about reading and about characters in books that masturbate. Can you tell a little about the ones in your own books that masturbate? I mean, the books you write. Who are they and how explicit does it get?
RESPONSE:
Thanks for asking, Brother, and maybe BW will publish this, though it looks like a Bruce promo! In my high fantasy series, The Moontusk Chronicles: A Tale of Sexual and Spiritual Discovery, you enter a detailed imaginary world where the Moon has rings (something like Saturn) woolly mammoths live in the mountains in the far northwest. Plus, many male characters do explicitly masturbate!
I started writing these books about 35 years ago after a vivid dream that I wrote down, which became the beginning. The only major change in the beginning is the hero, handsome young Prince Dare, had a dog instead of a chameleon cat that can blend into the surroundings. Anyway, Dare is heir to an imperial throne, which he hates as much as he loves to masturbate. In the first chapter, in a graphic scene, he masturbates, though he isn’t yet very skilled. When his beloved old tutor is poisoned and dies in an attempt on his own life, Dare flees with the cat, Maumet.
He tells himself he seeks enlightenment, a concept called “Tusk of the Moon” in the land where the mammoths live. After a long journey, mostly on foot, and many adventures, including many interrupted seductions by various men, Dare eventually finds love, instead of enlightenment. He meets a very different young man who also loves to masturbate. Both masturbation and m/m sex are depicted in sensual detail, sometimes in prolonged scenes, genitalia, pubic hair, and all. In that world, the Kemnoan Empire, there is in fact a secret conspiracy of Phallic Brotherhood, as well, to keep males more satisfied so that they bother women less.
“Both masturbation and m/m sex are depicted in sensual detail, sometimes in prolonged scenes, genitalia, pubic hair, and all.”
The hero of my novel The Purchasing Mother’s Son: A Fantastical Tale of 18th Century Siam is not gay, though towards the end he does have experiences with another young man. Handsome and red-haired Englishman, John Nathaniel Perch was born in Siam (now called Thailand, where I grew up) in 1736. The Siamese household women perform a ritual to appease a spirit of infant mortality called the “Purchasing Mother.” It seems successful as he grows up, and he grows up loving to masturbate. The only bad review I’ve had is from a woman who hated all the explicit male masturbation and John’s obsession with it, but I feel it’s realistic.
Eventually, the Purchasing Mother returns for John, aware she was tricked, and wants him because he is beautiful. She almost kills him, but he has his skin covered with magickal tattoos that not only protect him, but they also give him special powers. When the Burmese invade and destroy his home, John is captured and enslaved and must cultivate his Tantrick energy to get strong enough to help liberate his fellow slaves. His tattoos confer a kind of immortality on him, and he survives into our times.
These five novels (there are now four in the Moontusk series) contain more explicit male masturbation and gay sex than most books this side of pure pornography! Or is that what they are? You decide.
A note from The Batemaster: I’m honored that the guys at BateWorld have asked me to respond to some questions from male masturbators around the world every week.
