There is nothing morally wrong with porn, so long as no one is harmed by its production…
QUESTION: Hey, Bate Master Bruce! Hail Penis! I’m totally addicted! I always bate to porn, but you sometimes say that may not be such a great idea. I’m 35 and my hardons are still like a tree branch… most of the time. What gives?
RESPONSE: First of all, please understand that I am not at all opposed to porn. Erotic images have probably been arousing human males since the petroglyphs painted and carved on rocks, and the earliest cave paintings that sometimes depicted erections, naked human bodies, human copulation and sometimes animals mating. Whatever the deeper reasons, it seems human males are somewhat more prone to be stimulated by visual porn, than women are.
In a real sense, I consider porn sacred. It records an important and beautiful portion of our human existence that is still often subject to hiding, scorn, and continues to cause some people to feel guilt or shame. In truth, human sexuality, naked bodies and sexual activity are natural and healthy parts of our world, to be celebrated! Still, there is a long and complicated history of how attitudes on the subject have become distorted and irrational.
Regardless of that, the male masturbator of the 21st Century has an opportunity to reclaim the actual life-enhancing and shameless power of human sexuality in general, and specifically of masturbation. I’ve written before, perhaps more than once, about how studies show that a great deal of exposure to online porn may actually reduce your ability to enjoy intense pleasure. You can learn more about it in this TED Talk.
Still, there is nothing morally wrong with porn, so long as no one is harmed by its production. At the same time, you might consider the “quality of energy” you absorb from commercial porn, as well. In male arousal, your entire nervous system is heightened and receptive to all sorts of influences; the last thing you want is to become jaded. Human sexuality in general, and male masturbation specifically is a great adventure, a mysteriously powerful experience you never grow tired of enjoying, if you keep it in perspective in the context of a full and rich life.
If, as some men fantasize, you could masturbate 24/7 every day, would you really continue to enjoy it as much as you do now?
Your comments about having nice firm erections “most of the time” is also significant. I’m not suggesting you might develop Erectile Dysfunction, as some “porn addicts” do, rather keep in mind that you never need to have a rock-hard full erection all during a masturbation session. Indeed, it works far better to let it come and go, like the Moon moving through its cycle.
Enjoy your intense sexuality at age 35, and I don’t see any problem with your choices. It’s also nice to sometimes masturbate without porn, even look in a mirror. But there is not right and wrong with masturbation, so long as you cause no harm and enjoy yourself—then it’s all good!
A note from The Batemaster: I’m honored that the guys at Bateworld have asked me to respond to some questions from male masturbators around the world every week.
