Ask The Batemaster: Shrooms & The Bate

QUESTION: Hey, Brother Bruce, I can hardly believe what I discovered! I’m so lucky to live in a place where shrooms are now decriminalized (Denver). Tripping on shrooms can take you to unbelievable places in the bate. My buddies and I sometimes share this now, and it’s like our erections become these cosmic, universal mushrooms! We experience this world as totally magic, the body as a psychedelic temple, the bate as the best religion you could have. Have you heard of anything like this?

RESPONSE: Most definitely, Brother, I have heard such things: I get similar reports from other male Mushroom Planet voyagers! In order to speak responsibly, I cannot advocate such use of a drug still illegal in many places and certain contexts. However, the times we live in are different from any time before.

It’s become clear over recent decades that the Psilocybin mushroom is one of the safest psychedelics. In fact, the drug is now being legally used in some places to treat such conditions as PTSD, depression, and even tobacco addiction. Just in the last couple of decades serious research on the medical and psychological uses of these fungi has resumed after they were made illegal during the anti-drug backlash from the wild 1960’s.

The famous psychedelic pioneer Terence McKenna felt there was an ancient connection between our species and the Psilocybin mushrooms going back many thousands of years, a kind of innate sympathy between these “magic” fungi and the bipedal primates that we are. He felt that using them had evolved us. (BTW, I have read eye-witness accounts from the hot-tubs at Esalen Institute that McKenna’s penis was large and shroom-headed!) Evidently there are actually receptor sites in our brains that seem designed for similar chemicals to “plug-in” to, just as there are with Cannabis.

And you are far from the first male masturbator I’ve encountered who tells me that these mushrooms can enhance male self-pleasuring immensely, can render it an exciting adventure in consciousness, and take you into new zones of pure penis pleasure beyond anything you have ever experienced.

We do not need to look back to McKenna’s idea of an ancient relationship to realize that we live in what the famous writer Aldous Huxley called a “Brave New World,” though in fact, he quotes from The Tempest by Shakespeare where he says: “How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world, / That has such people in’t!”

Any substance that alters consciousness may have beneficial uses when used responsibly and with some moderation yet may also be abused. Certainly, the effect of Psilocybin mushrooms, which stimulate the nervous system, may turn out to fit well with pushing the enjoyment of male masturbation to new levels.

My stance is neither to encourage such experiments or discourage them. If you are an adult and willing to accept responsibility for your choice in this, then more power to you! Please send reports back from the new frontier!

A note from The Batemaster: I’m honored that the guys at Bateworld have asked me to respond to some questions from male masturbators around the world every week.

Always check with your doctor about any issues you might be experiencing with your sexual organs. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are important. This article’s purpose is to inform and entertain readers and is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment.

The Batemaster (Bruce P. Grether)

How Bruce P. Grether became the Batemaster

Among his earliest memories, Bruce recalls seeing an adult man’s penis swing about anchored in a nest of curly brown hairs when the man was changing clothes. That penis fascinated him and he somehow knew it was of major importance. He also remembers how good it felt to slide down a stairway banister or to climb a tree with pressure between his legs sending delicious sensations all through his body.

At an early age, he played doctor with another boy his age, and the frottage he enjoyed as they rubbed their penises together made him feel One with All Things.

He was older, maybe 9 or 10 years when he figured out how to actually masturbate while taking a shower. Immediately Bruce became a fan of self-pleasure, though, with puberty, he became extremely shy about his body being seen. Still, when his pubic hair sprouted and his penis grew bigger, it astonished him how incredible the sensations could feel with adult genitalia.

All through his 20s and 30s Bruce loved masturbating and did it often. Something kept tell him though, that there could be more to it. None of the books he read about Tantra and Taoist erotic cultivation provided simple how-to instructions. Finally, in his early 40s, he came upon Joseph Kramer’s video about male genital massage: FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Having no playmates to try this with, he tried it on himself. In the process, he discovered what he soon named “Mindful Masturbation.” For 6 weeks he masturbated for hours every day, and did not ejaculate once! This was the Penis Paradise he had been looking for since his adventures playing doctor as a young boy. He was changed forever and lost most of his shyness and insecurities.

Bruce began to listen deeply to whatever his penis told him. This way he learned more and more about male masturbation, the penis, and he studied human sexuality. Soon he was hired to write professionally for the sex education site JackinWorld (dot) com, which he did for some years under the name “Bruce McFarland.”

Since then, his erotic activism is more radical and he uses his actual given name: Bruce P. Grether, AKA the Batemaster. He has hosted workshops and now does online masturbation coaching. In 2012 his best-selling book THE SECRET OF THE GOLDEN PHALLUS was published and with his handsome young friend Blue Tyger he created the Erotic Engineering site to explore advanced male self-pleasure practices.

Bruce considers himself a Missionary of the Male Mysteries and his work continues.

    1. Your enthusiasm is much appreciated. Sorry I don’t have permission to share any contact information for this guy, but hopefully you can find bate buddies in Denver who might be open to this kind of experience! Peace, BPG

  1. Hi Bruce,
I have had the same experience with marijuana.
I’ve laid off too much alcohol as that is a boner-killer.
I guess it’s the presence, the visual stimulation, the diminishing of shame… what are your thoughts?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Brother Mike! Yes, I’ve written at least two columns on Cannabis and the bate, if you haven’t seen those, they’re in the archive here on BW. It’s become clear that like Cannabis, shrooms used responsibly can enhance the bate tremendously. In both case, a reasonable dosage is indicated, as you can get “too high” to function with any focus. Today’s Cannabis is really powerful, and it’s wise to use it moderately, so you don’t just totally “space out” or fall asleep. There are the two basic varieties: Indica and Sativa, and for many Indica tends to be more of a “couch lock,” meaning you may end up sitting in one place watching TV or something otherwise boring. Sativa is often better for lively fun and creativity, and perhaps more likely to enhance a variety of experiences. Most definitely, alcohol doesn’t tend to enhance sexual function or masturbation, though it seems some moderate drinkers can use the de-inhibition. Heavy drinkers are eventually prone to erectile dysfunction in many cases.
