Ask The Batemaster: Penis Is My God. Is This Heretical?

QUESTION: My penis really is my God, no apologies or shame about this! I liked your response about penis worship, but seriously, when I masturbate, the better it feels, the closer I am to God. I just know that God not only approves, it feels good to God also. This is why God made me as I am, with a penis that craves and gives me so much bliss. Does this sound heretical to you?

RESPONSE: This does not sound heretical at all, Brother! Many seriously religious people would disagree with me, I’m sure, as most religions have somewhat ambiguous, sex-negative, or extremely sex-negative views. Though I don’t personally call my penis “God,” or describe my own sensations and my feelings about it exactly as you do, I can basically relate.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by God in this case. Though I am not religious in any conventional way, for me the human penis and our enjoyment of it during masturbation is something I can call “spiritual.” To me, the finest of the sensations I feel while I masturbate seem to me to be a sense of connection with the Source of Everything. It is a feeling of actually being connected with everything in existence: not just that idea, but the living, breathing, pulsating, heart-beating reality of it.

Your statement and your experience would doubtless be considered “heretical” by many religious people. That means holding an opinion contrary to accepted religious belief or dogma, by much of the three major Abrahamic religions, and even by many people of other major faiths, such as Hinduism and Buddhism. The beliefs that masturbation is a bad thing, in my opinion, actually stem from the reality that not only is masturbation actually a good thing, healthy and beneficial, but this truth is seen as a threat by religious authorities.

Religious authorities have often seen male masturbation and the pure penis pleasure it gives you, as a threat precisely because it offers you a direct experience of something that seems “Divine” or exalted beyond other common experiences. In modern times, religious experience has often become a largely mental exercise, a matter of beliefs, ideas, imposed teachings, rather than direct personal experience. It often remains abstract, formalized rituals. So, the direct experience of erotic ecstasy that can take you beyond words, out of your mind into the sense of feeling connected with what you call “God,” must be denounced, because it might in fact replace religion for you. In ancient times, there were sometimes temple prostitutes who gave people such an experience, so there was not such a division between the sacred and sexual.

This taboo about masturbation is also sometimes justified partly with the notion that to “waste your seed” might violate the mandate to reproduce and create more children. Of course, this makes less sense than ever on a planet where our still-growing population of over 7.5 billion is putting such serious strain upon our resources and natural environment. In this day and age, more than ever, you must question authority and think for yourself.

Good for you, and more power to you, if you believe that God approves of your masturbation. In this sense, I certainly agree with that power you call “God”!

A note from The Batemaster: I’m honored that the guys at Bateworld have asked me to respond to some questions from male masturbators around the world every week.

How Bruce P. Grether became the Batemaster

Among his earliest memories, Bruce recalls seeing an adult man’s penis swing about anchored in a nest of curly brown hairs when the man was changing clothes. That penis fascinated him and he somehow knew it was of major importance. He also remembers how good it felt to slide down a stairway banister or to climb a tree with pressure between his legs sending delicious sensations all through his body.

At an early age, he played doctor with another boy his age, and the frottage he enjoyed as they rubbed their penises together made him feel One with All Things.

He was older, maybe 9 or 10 years when he figured out how to actually masturbate while taking a shower. Immediately Bruce became a fan of self-pleasure, though, with puberty, he became extremely shy about his body being seen. Still, when his pubic hair sprouted and his penis grew bigger, it astonished him how incredible the sensations could feel with adult genitalia.

All through his 20s and 30s Bruce loved masturbating and did it often. Something kept tell him though, that there could be more to it. None of the books he read about Tantra and Taoist erotic cultivation provided simple how-to instructions. Finally, in his early 40s, he came upon Joseph Kramer’s video about male genital massage: FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Having no playmates to try this with, he tried it on himself. In the process, he discovered what he soon named “Mindful Masturbation.” For 6 weeks he masturbated for hours every day, and did not ejaculate once! This was the Penis Paradise he had been looking for since his adventures playing doctor as a young boy. He was changed forever and lost most of his shyness and insecurities.

Bruce began to listen deeply to whatever his penis told him. This way he learned more and more about male masturbation, the penis, and he studied human sexuality. Soon he was hired to write professionally for the sex education site JackinWorld (dot) com, which he did for some years under the name “Bruce McFarland.”

Since then, his erotic activism is more radical and he uses his actual given name: Bruce P. Grether, AKA the Batemaster. He has hosted workshops and now does online masturbation coaching. In 2012 his best-selling book THE SECRET OF THE GOLDEN PHALLUS was published and with his handsome young friend Blue Tyger he created the Erotic Engineering site to explore advanced male self-pleasure practices.

Bruce considers himself a Missionary of the Male Mysteries and his work continues.

  1. Batemaster,
I somewhat agree with the bator posing this question. I also believe that masturbation was a gift from God. He chose me to be a masturbator on the day of my birth and at age 5-6 introduced me to the joys and pleasures of the cock. He has made my cock an intrument of worship; through my cock I worship Him. After all we are made in His image. There have been many other signs from God that helped me reach this conclusion. That is another story for another time. I also agree with your answer; masturbation is a spiritual event. By the way, I am not the only similarly blessed masturbator. Bate on brothers.

  2. I’m non-religious – figured that out in Sunday school early on. So what a surprise to hang out at a gay spiritual retreat center for a number of years. Thanks to men like Bruce (who I met there), I figured out I had a spiritual practice – masturbation – that was essential to my well-being. So, different path and different words than the man who posed the question, but I sense we’re close brothers!
