There is no single choice that works for all men, of course. If you are healthy […] you may enjoy a lot of masturbation without feeling depleted.
QUESTION: I’m a 56-year-old male. I love masturbation and edging a lot. How many ejaculations should I have at my age?
RESPONSE: That’s a great question and an important one for male masturbators, especially when you reach middle age or older, and there is no single or simple answer to it. According to ancient Taoist (Chinese) teachings on sexuality, every ejaculation weakens you, and you can benefit greatly from continuing to cultivate erotic energy, enjoy penis pleasure, while shooting out your semen far less often. Some serious Taoists even believe there are formulas to calculate how often it’s okay to ejaculate, the extreme view being that you should never do it at all unless you choose to intentionally conceive a child.
While I don’t take these beliefs literally, as always there are some “seeds” of truth behind it. Men may gain a lot of energy, as well as overall feelings of greater well-being by expelling semen from their bodies less often. In fact, when you practice serious semen retention (as I usually do, though not always in any militant sense!) your body learns to re-absorb the semen components you generate. Semen contains many valuable substances. Overall it bears a strong resemblance to spinal fluid, so possibly there are some actual benefits in this way.
By today’s standard 56 is not very old. With good self-care and some luck, you should be able to enjoy stroking that penis of yours for many years, possibly many decades to come. While I do not actually believe that retaining most of your semen will render you Superman, as some Taoists suggest, the flip-side of this is that once your sexy 30s pass, you may find that to ejaculate every day, or even every few days will actually feel less fun and energizing than limiting it to once every few days, or once a week or even every few weeks.
I do personally know some superb masturbators who ejaculate at least once every day. There is no single choice that works for all men, of course. If you are healthy, eat well and hydrate, get good sleep and plenty of exercise, you may enjoy a lot of masturbation without feeling depleted. The good side of edging for longer periods, or even serious semen retention is that you can actually feel more energetic, and yet calmer and more balanced, so long as you learn to keep relaxed during arousal, and to fully absorb the pleasure you have generated. The Taoist Big Draw technique, or to simply relax and consciously absorb the pleasure in the afterglow, can both help a lot with this.
I suggest you try out a complete palette of possibilities for yourself. Begin with a few days in a row of ejaculating once or more per day; then try skipping a day of ejaculation though masturbate plenty. Make sure you do some serious edging, then skip two or three days before you ejaculate.
There is no reason to give up daily orgasms when you choose to ejaculate less often or retain your semen for longer periods. The big revelation of the 21st Century for many men is that ejaculation and orgasm are not one and the same. You can enjoy multiple orgasms without ejaculating at all. That’s a big topic in itself!
A note from The Batemaster: I’m honored that the guys at Bateworld have asked me to respond to some questions from male masturbators around the world every week.
Always check with your doctor about any issues you might be experiencing with your sexual organs. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are important. This article’s purpose is to inform and entertain readers and is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment.
Is an interesting question. Guess the answer will likely vary (all over the place) on how often we feel the need to do the deed. At 65 I’m still a daily bator and have been for eons. I really enjoy my morning coffee and bate. Perhaps its more of a habit than anything else. But I enjoy it. So I do it.
And yes things have changed down there over the years. I don’t pre like I used to and my loads are smaller and I don’t get nearly as erect like I used to either. Yet the pleasure(s) are still so amazing so why not give it a go.
Thanks, Brother! Yes, and still implicit in how many guys discuss masturbation is the common assumption that the goal is always ejaculatory orgasm–wrong! For so many men who realize the value of edging for longer periods, or even semen retention over time, there is not need to give up orgasm. You can still enjoy abundant orgasms, and probably a lot more pleasure overall when you make the choice and initial effort to re-train your body NOT to ejaculate so often!
We need to learn from our bodies what feels and works for us, and not expect it to be a constant in the erotic realm. At age 76, it take a few days to “recover” for an ejaculation and a week from two that are close together. I choose to delay this refractory period for several weeks but postponing ejaculation. Fortunately, I’ve learned from Bruce G a multi-orgasmic technique that allows 500-1000 dry orgasms in between the wet ones. Right now that’s working for me! Thanks so much, Beloved Bator Brother! I’ve just posted a photo of you holding my penis all those years ago on my new Twitter account ( https://twitter.com/BruceBate ), plus a link to your blog!
