Ask The Batemaster: After Ejaculation Exhaustion

Though every man loves ejaculation, there are great rewards beyond it!

QUESTION: Hi Bate Master Bruce! I’m in my 80’s, and still masturbate often, usually every day. Most often I don’t even need a pill for my erections, unless I want it extra hard, or for a longer time. I’ve noticed, though, your semen retention ideas work well for me. If I don’t cum, I’m fine day after day. When I do ejaculate, I’m tired and not much interested in sex for at least two days after, or more. Is this usual?

RESPONSE: With age, that “refractory period,” meaning how long it takes before you want stimulation again or can get an erection, tends to get longer. Though every man loves ejaculation, there are great rewards beyond it! “Edging,” usually seems to involve keeping yourself as close to “ejaculatory inevitability” for as long as possible. Sometimes men choose not to end their sessions with ejaculation for days at a time, a practice often called “cum denial,” in which men may proudly count the days since they last came.

These practices can certainly open the doors of perception for a lot of men, to discover realms of pure penis pleasure beyond anything you’ve felt before. However, what I mean by “semen retention” takes the basic idea but does not focus exclusively upon keeping so close to the edge all the time. My practice is strongly influenced by both the Bengali Tantra from ancient India and the Taoist Erotic Cultivation techniques which also go back many centuries.

The Taoist teaching is that every time you ejaculate, it weakens you, and that you have only so much energy at your command in this lifetime. Thus, to ejaculate regularly and often eventually weakens you, leads to poor health and premature aging. The opposite is the man who learns to “cultivate” his erotic energy, ejaculating far less often, something like a gardener growing a beautiful garden. He “tends the plants” with loving care, which is believed to result in vibrant health, youthfulness, and long life.

Though I do not take these beliefs literally, like many ancient traditions, there are seeds of truth to the teachings. At the same time, I have personally known extraordinary masturbators who ejaculate every single day. In your teens, 20’s and 30’s, or even later, you may feel the urge to ejaculate two or three times a day or more, as I always did. Your emotional state and energy can be sort of of a roller-coaster, with a major dip after each ejaculation.

The flip side is more dramatic: starting in middle age, a man may benefit dramatically from ejaculating far less often, no more than once every few days, or even once a week or every few weeks. In between ejaculatory orgasms, you may learn to give yourself dry orgasm, multiple dry orgasms, and full body orgasms—all without ejaculation. These are incredibly rewarding!

You will feel more vibrantly energized, yet quite calm and serene the rest of the time. You must learn to keep the pelvis relaxed during arousal to avoid “blue balls,” but otherwise you are also “ready to play” almost any time. IN my experience, semen retention is highly beneficial.

Sometimes I’m asked how often I ejaculate these days, and I usually say, “Not often!” So, congratulations, Sir! It’s a spectacular journey, is it not?

A note from The Batemaster: I’m honored that the guys at Bateworld have asked me to respond to some questions from male masturbators around the world every week.

How Bruce P. Grether became the Batemaster

Among his earliest memories, Bruce recalls seeing an adult man’s penis swing about anchored in a nest of curly brown hairs when the man was changing clothes. That penis fascinated him and he somehow knew it was of major importance. He also remembers how good it felt to slide down a stairway banister or to climb a tree with pressure between his legs sending delicious sensations all through his body.

At an early age, he played doctor with another boy his age, and the frottage he enjoyed as they rubbed their penises together made him feel One with All Things.

He was older, maybe 9 or 10 years when he figured out how to actually masturbate while taking a shower. Immediately Bruce became a fan of self-pleasure, though, with puberty, he became extremely shy about his body being seen. Still, when his pubic hair sprouted and his penis grew bigger, it astonished him how incredible the sensations could feel with adult genitalia.

All through his 20s and 30s Bruce loved masturbating and did it often. Something kept tell him though, that there could be more to it. None of the books he read about Tantra and Taoist erotic cultivation provided simple how-to instructions. Finally, in his early 40s, he came upon Joseph Kramer’s video about male genital massage: FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Having no playmates to try this with, he tried it on himself. In the process, he discovered what he soon named “Mindful Masturbation.” For 6 weeks he masturbated for hours every day, and did not ejaculate once! This was the Penis Paradise he had been looking for since his adventures playing doctor as a young boy. He was changed forever and lost most of his shyness and insecurities.

Bruce began to listen deeply to whatever his penis told him. This way he learned more and more about male masturbation, the penis, and he studied human sexuality. Soon he was hired to write professionally for the sex education site JackinWorld (dot) com, which he did for some years under the name “Bruce McFarland.”

Since then, his erotic activism is more radical and he uses his actual given name: Bruce P. Grether, AKA the Batemaster. He has hosted workshops and now does online masturbation coaching. In 2012 his best-selling book THE SECRET OF THE GOLDEN PHALLUS was published and with his handsome young friend Blue Tyger he created the Erotic Engineering site to explore advanced male self-pleasure practices.

Bruce considers himself a Missionary of the Male Mysteries and his work continues.
