Ask The Batemaster: Cock And Spirituality

Spiritual? Like worshipping cock?

Ask The Batemaster LogoQUESTION: Bruce—I’ve looked at your site, which is great, and you seem to talk about masturbation being spiritual. How can this be, when religions and lots of people condemn it? Of course, I like it. Personally, that’s why I’m here. But spiritual? I don’t get that unless it’s, like, worshiping cock?

RESPONSE: Most definitely the pleasure your penis provides you with alters your consciousness, takes you into an exalted state, and can take you into a realm beyond words that some guys call gooning or monkey-bate babble. With all due respect to those who take religions seriously, those last experiences I mentioned remind me of “speaking in tongues,” or “glossolalia.” How can anything be more spiritual than these states where you go out of your mind in ecstasy, and enter the void of total oblivion? Each time you come back, is like a rebirth, right? Of course, you don’t need to agree with any of this.

It’s partly a matter of what you mean by “spiritual.” To me, the word indicates that there is a lot more to things than meets the eye. Spirit simply means “energy” to me. As such, all forms in the material world are expressions of this energy, including human bodies and genitals. In my opinion, there is no “spiritual path” more natural to human males than our veneration for what I call the “Living Phallus.” This means the erect penis and the associated pleasures. Not merely as a symbol or mythic image, but the actual throbbing appendage that extends from between your legs with heightened sensitivity and its amazing ability to transport you into expanded awareness.

The truth about religious attitudes towards the penis and masturbation is not quite so negative as people imagine. Yes, modern religions have developed many negative beliefs and rules around human sexuality, but this has not always been so. Some such attitudes are relatively recent. In truth, religions have ignored and dismissed the importance of the penis and masturbation, far more often than they have been condemned. Most religious taboos around sex actually have to do with marriage and fidelity.

Much of the negativity about masturbation actually began in the early 18th century, then rose to hysterical proportions that our global culture has not fully recovered from, even now.

Fortunately, in today’s world of the Internet with the easy flow of information around the world, across national and cultural and religious boundaries, sensible human realities are enjoying a resurgence. Bateworld plays an important role in providing a context where men can honestly and safely celebrate what most men would love to freely enjoy. Here, you enjoy permission to experience and share the honest, natural pleasures of your body. You can share this with your Phallic Brothers in bliss. This is not only harmless, but beneficial, physically, psychologically, and yes, spiritually.

You can honor any religious background as a valid cultural identity without being bound by literal beliefs.

Many Brothers here resurrect the ancient phallic deities to help restore a spiritual dimension to what we human males naturally love and revere. My own practice dedicates the pleasure my penis provides to honor of the Source, the Universe, Nature, or the Great Mystery. So, whatever you believe in that’s most important to you, even the penises of your Brothers, you can worship with the blissful sensations of your cock. That’s about as spiritual as it gets.

How Bruce P. Grether became the Batemaster

Among his earliest memories, Bruce recalls seeing an adult man’s penis swing about anchored in a nest of curly brown hairs when the man was changing clothes. That penis fascinated him and he somehow knew it was of major importance. He also remembers how good it felt to slide down a stairway banister or to climb a tree with pressure between his legs sending delicious sensations all through his body.

At an early age, he played doctor with another boy his age, and the frottage he enjoyed as they rubbed their penises together made him feel One with All Things.

He was older, maybe 9 or 10 years when he figured out how to actually masturbate while taking a shower. Immediately Bruce became a fan of self-pleasure, though, with puberty, he became extremely shy about his body being seen. Still, when his pubic hair sprouted and his penis grew bigger, it astonished him how incredible the sensations could feel with adult genitalia.

All through his 20s and 30s Bruce loved masturbating and did it often. Something kept tell him though, that there could be more to it. None of the books he read about Tantra and Taoist erotic cultivation provided simple how-to instructions. Finally, in his early 40s, he came upon Joseph Kramer’s video about male genital massage: FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Having no playmates to try this with, he tried it on himself. In the process, he discovered what he soon named “Mindful Masturbation.” For 6 weeks he masturbated for hours every day, and did not ejaculate once! This was the Penis Paradise he had been looking for since his adventures playing doctor as a young boy. He was changed forever and lost most of his shyness and insecurities.

Bruce began to listen deeply to whatever his penis told him. This way he learned more and more about male masturbation, the penis, and he studied human sexuality. Soon he was hired to write professionally for the sex education site JackinWorld (dot) com, which he did for some years under the name “Bruce McFarland.”

Since then, his erotic activism is more radical and he uses his actual given name: Bruce P. Grether, AKA the Batemaster. He has hosted workshops and now does online masturbation coaching. In 2012 his best-selling book THE SECRET OF THE GOLDEN PHALLUS was published and with his handsome young friend Blue Tyger he created the Erotic Engineering site to explore advanced male self-pleasure practices.

Bruce considers himself a Missionary of the Male Mysteries and his work continues.

    1. Bateworld is a good place to explore this subject, and also my own free Erotic Engineering site, of course!

  1. I agree that masturbation is a spiritual practice. I met Bruce 15+ years ago at Easton Mountain, a spiritual retreat center for gay men, where he was teaching and facilitating group masturbation rituals in a workshop. After this auspicious beginning I went on to be active at Easton, eventually becoming chair of the non-profit board. I’d not participated in organized religion for many decades but needed to claim a spiritual practice. It took me a while to accept that my spiritual practice was masturbation – and I consciously did it all around the rural site adding cock energy into the mix.

    1. This is still cutting-edge, to truly understand and experience masturbation as a naturally spiritual practice for men, but you’ve always been ahead of the curve in this sense. As I discuss in my book THE SECRET OF THE GOLDEN PHALLUS, more than ever I feel male masturbation still remains a taboo, or dismissed as inferior precisely because it IS to powerful! Do you need an intermediary between your self and what we call the “Divine” when you realize there is a direct link between your legs? We are entering a new Sexual Revolution this very moment, of reclaiming this truth, IMO!

  2. Masturbation has so many options, it can be enjoyed, explored or worshiped, There really aren’t any set rules or thoughts – we’re basically all chasing after a bit of pleasure that our bodies can give us if we choose to do so. That’s the great thing about BW & forums like this is to keep learning & exploring and of course practicing.

    1. Correct! There’s no right and wrong way to explore these options, no dogmas or formulas. There are limitless possibilities, but much of it comes from simply listening really deeply to your own penis during arousal and pleasure.

  3. the article nicely joins the spiritual and physical, back and forth as it is when we masturbate. The physical of the cock, which becomes Cock as we succumb to his pleasures and need to be stroked. Living flesh of pleasures that excites our minds with such good feelings, while feeling so good in our hands. I cross over between the physical and spiritual as i seek deeper into his goon, and troll the edge of reality.

    1. Well said Jake22cm, its a beautiful combination of physical and mental pleasuring. And exploring our various zones of pleasure and letting them take us away to the grand finale of an orgasm.

      1. For me, the physical and spiritual merge and reveal the deeper Oneness, or non-duality in high erotic states where my penis allows me to feel connected with All Things. I’ll not apologize if this sounds a bit woo-woo to some guys. Most gooners and edgers do understand my meaning, I think!

  4. I host the Christian Masturbators group on BateWorld and like to incorporate prayer and fellowship with jerking off. There are discussions in the group where we dispel false religious teachings about masturbation and sex and help guys overcome guilt and have a positive attitude about sex and jacking off in God’s eyes. I have had some great orgasms thinking only on how Jesus approves of the pleasure I am giving myself through my cock. Masturbation is truly a gift to be enjoyed and thankful for.

    1. Good for you that you are able to bridge your religious faith with a love of masturbating. Many guys cannot do this very well, so hopefully your example inspires some men in this regard! It requires that you not be blindly dogmatic, but “Think for yourself, and question authority.” More power to you! — Bruce P. Grether
