Personally, my advice is: Don’t do it.
Here’s why.
QUESTION:
I’ve seen what you wrote about penis enlargement before, that there’s no safe, effective way with surgery or pills. Yeah. Masturbate a lot and keep it stretched. Sure. But I heard about this thing: what do you think about jelqing?
RESPONSE:
Various treatments with pills and surgical attempts to increase penis size are not really effective. They also come with risks of being defrauded about medicines or supplements, and in the case of surgery, possible complications leading to erectile dysfunction. This may not be what some men wish to hear, still it’s far better to work on loving your penis exactly as it is. When you have the right attitude, every penis is beautiful, and every penis is the perfect size.
Jelqing is a practice that apparently originated in the Middle East. By most accounts it involves stretching the penis quite radically, even to the point of causing its internal tissues to rupture and hopefully grow back. Possibly a moderate, not too extreme regimen of jelqing might add a small amount to the length and girth of your penis. Again, however, the practice is not proven effective for most men who try it, and it may also come with serious risks.
The process basically involves pulling and stretching your penis, sometimes using certain devices which can be purchased online—though I do not recommend any such thing. The concept is that, as with bodybuilding, the stress will produce micro-tears in muscle, and as they heal, the muscle will thicken. The thing about this is that the penis only has one kind of muscle within it, called “smooth muscle” which is a tissue quite different from biceps, triceps, pectoral muscles and abs, which attach to ligaments and bones.
The actual medical and scientific information (aside from folks who may wish to sell this to you) shows that there is no consistent evidence of increased penis size, though some who have tried it insist they have gained an inch or more in penis length. I have not tried this myself, and don’t plan to. Still, the logic is that you may even rupture blood vessels or cause nerve damage.
I always choose to err on the side of caution, so far as practices that might damage my genitals, and yours!
I always choose to err on the side of caution, so far as practices that might damage my genitals, and yours! I’m not even a fan of cockrings, penis pumping, or wearing heavy weights on the balls, also for this reason. Your genitals are an extremely precious and delicate part of your anatomy! Why risk damaging them?
There is quite a lot of information online about jelqing, including some demonstration videos. Do your own research and make your own decision. I am not a doctor or therapist. But this is a practice I suggest you research well and consider the possible serious drawback of before you consider trying it yourself. Personally, my advice is: Don’t do it.
A note from The Batemaster: I’m honored that the guys at Bateworld have asked me to respond to some questions from male masturbators around the world every week.
Always check with your doctor about any issues you might be experiencing with your sexual organs. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are important. This article’s purpose is to inform and entertain readers and is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment.

I agree with the Batemaster that one should not expect any effects on penis size by jelqing. Though I am not so anxious it will cause damage. Jelqing means that you apply a tight grip with your fingers at your penis and slowly move your tight fingers from the base to the head. If the penis is fully soft the tissue is so flexible that even a very tight grip won’t do any harm – it will just have no effect. If my penis is completely hard my fingers won’t be able to squeeze my penis that it would hurt – perhaps my fingers are too weak, or my dick is too hard… Jelqing really works only on a semi hard dick. If you form a ring with your fingers at the base you push the blood towards the head. The further you go towards the head the blood will be in front of as well as behind your fingers – your tight grip just forms a sort of wasp waist on your dick. I don’t think anybody will have fingers which are able to severely harm the inner tissue of the penis. Cock rings, especially silikon devices, may have more detrimental effects than your fingers
If one doesn’t use lube there will be strain on the skin caused by the friction of your tight grip moving forwards. So use some lube to avoid this.
After all jelqing is just one way of manipulating your penis – we know and apply many others. My biggest problem with it: my dick won’t stay semi hard if I try it.
I don’t really do what I call “Jelqing” but I understand the issue of your penis growing harder when manipulated this way. In fact, I have seen and read about different “forms” of Jelqing and some involve stretching the penis radically while soft, others are just like really assertive milking of the erection. I would not expect a lot of size gain, but so long as you don’t hurt yourself, it may feel really good!!! — BPG
