Ask The Batemaster: Sleeping Naked

For a man to sleep naked allows you in gentle and pleasurable ways to feel your genitals against nice bedding.

QUESTION: On TV and in films I see how guys sometimes sleep in PJs or shorts, or even shorts and a t! How is this? How can they stand it? Since I was in early teens, I’ve always slept buck naked. Now I have these ultra-soft bamboo sheets and being in bed feels so fine on my penis. It often gives me a boner just to feel and I end up stroking! Feels soooooo good, Bro Bruce! What do you think of all this?

RESPONSE: Wonderful! Anything that encourages awareness of your penis, and of delicious pleasure, is basically good! I recall having pajamas in ancient times as a young boy, and later sleeping in shorts. Like many human males, I guess this came from conditioning, family experience, the influence of others around me.

Then about 25 years ago I met a wonderful man who wanted to sleep with me, and he always sleeps naked too, so since then I’ve always slept naked!

As you mention, Brother, for a man to sleep naked allows you in gentle and pleasurable ways to feel your genitals against nice bedding. It prevents any kind of constriction or limited play of those fantastically sensitive and changeable parts, your penis, balls and even your anus. The free play and the gentle stimulation helps your genitalia to stay relaxed—it also helps your penis to swell, thicken, lengthen and stiffen, not only without interference, but simply from direct contact with nice bed clothing, as you mentioned.

If you see BBC historicals, it’s true that guys not so long ago (in the Western World at least) used to often wear a long, loose night-shirt, or even a gown like the women slept in. Those alternatives surely gave easy genital swing and sway, easy access to penis and balls, and encouraged such enjoyment more than modern boxers or briefs and pajamas. Still, totally naked, in direct contact with comfortable bedding feels most natural and encourages you to appreciate your body in the finest ways of self-pleasure.

Humans adapt to some pretty curious practices and behaviors and beliefs. In the past some kinds of bedclothes were also valued for keeping warm in winter, which we seldom need to worry about with today’s central heat. The relaxed and sensual enjoyment of your body is a great benefit for men who choose to sleep naked. Shorts and t-shirts may just be a conditioned habit for many, or even pajamas. However, those can also reflect unconscious modesty taboos, a lingering touch of shame about nakedness, and a lack of privacy.

I’m glad you feel free to sleep naked, that you enjoy it so much, and that it encourages you in your pursuits of self-pleasure! More power to you, and to all guys who sleep naked!

How Bruce P. Grether became the Batemaster

Among his earliest memories, Bruce recalls seeing an adult man’s penis swing about anchored in a nest of curly brown hairs when the man was changing clothes. That penis fascinated him and he somehow knew it was of major importance. He also remembers how good it felt to slide down a stairway banister or to climb a tree with pressure between his legs sending delicious sensations all through his body.

At an early age, he played doctor with another boy his age, and the frottage he enjoyed as they rubbed their penises together made him feel One with All Things.

He was older, maybe 9 or 10 years when he figured out how to actually masturbate while taking a shower. Immediately Bruce became a fan of self-pleasure, though, with puberty, he became extremely shy about his body being seen. Still, when his pubic hair sprouted and his penis grew bigger, it astonished him how incredible the sensations could feel with adult genitalia.

All through his 20s and 30s Bruce loved masturbating and did it often. Something kept tell him though, that there could be more to it. None of the books he read about Tantra and Taoist erotic cultivation provided simple how-to instructions. Finally, in his early 40s, he came upon Joseph Kramer’s video about male genital massage: FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Having no playmates to try this with, he tried it on himself. In the process, he discovered what he soon named “Mindful Masturbation.” For 6 weeks he masturbated for hours every day, and did not ejaculate once! This was the Penis Paradise he had been looking for since his adventures playing doctor as a young boy. He was changed forever and lost most of his shyness and insecurities.

Bruce began to listen deeply to whatever his penis told him. This way he learned more and more about male masturbation, the penis, and he studied human sexuality. Soon he was hired to write professionally for the sex education site JackinWorld (dot) com, which he did for some years under the name “Bruce McFarland.”

Since then, his erotic activism is more radical and he uses his actual given name: Bruce P. Grether, AKA the Batemaster. He has hosted workshops and now does online masturbation coaching. In 2012 his best-selling book THE SECRET OF THE GOLDEN PHALLUS was published and with his handsome young friend Blue Tyger he created the Erotic Engineering site to explore advanced male self-pleasure practices.

Bruce considers himself a Missionary of the Male Mysteries and his work continues.

  1. Lovely observations here. I sleep naked at night for the gentle sensuality gained from bedding but also for bodily awareness while I sleep. I place hands on myself during sleep – caressing penis, balls, chest or biceps – and it both comforts me and builds up sexual energy through the night which I can harness come morning.

Having said this, I do sometimes sleep in tight briefs. I never know why. I just listen to my body. When I do, I enjoy the constriction as my penis swells. My hand slipped into that tight space feels delicious. And then freeing my huge penis from that “trap” is really a very sensual moment.

    1. Thank you for your appreciative comments, Brother. Of course that alternative you sometime enjoy of the tight briefs is yet another excellent form of body awareness, and sensual appreciation for yourself! Surely a bit of variety can help “wake up” body awareness as well. — BPG

  2. Take on board all of the above. However for those of us in colder climes, warm clothing is essential to avoid hypothermia or over heavy bedding. Take the point about central heating, but this can lead to stuffy bedrooms and dehydration, hardly conducive to sexual pleasure, not to mention the environmental impact of use of fossil fuels unnecessarily.
To me there is nothing like a pair of very baggy PJs on a cold winters night to incubate and care for my genitals, and an open fly provides easy access when required! In my view they can also be very erotic, an erect penis protruding from such a masculine garment is very hot. Seasonal change provides natural rythym to life, and I am enjoying reverting to sleeping buff at this time of year.
Thank you Bruce for your blogs which I always find thought provoking and affirming.

    1. Indeed! The variety of ways to sleep is a case of “all good,” I’m sure, so long as it’s not inhibiting to self-appreciation! Indeed, an aroused and engorged male member protruding from some kind of garment, can at times seem even sexier (to me, at least!) than 100% nudity all the time. Variety makes like more fun, as well as spicier!

  3. I’ll never forget being on family vacation when I was young and seeing my dad get into his bed naked. I stopped wearing pajamas from that day forward.

    1. This is also totally understandable! I recall a few (otherwise innocent) glimpses of adult male genitals and pubic hair during simple episodes of changing clothing, which created vivid memories for me ever since. I’m not sure the cause, but I’ve had a penis fixation for as long as I can remember! — BPG

  4. I remember when I was about 8 I discovered a boy in my neighborhood who I was friends with slept with no pajamas on, meaning naked! I remember feeling kind of scandalized but passed it off to his different ethnic background. Fast forward 15 years… my boyfriend slept naked so I adopted his practice and I’ve never looked back. In fact I became a home nudist a few years ago. I live in a warm climate so don’t have the same challenges that brothers like Robwanker do
